       Notice is given of the commencement of an application period for grants under the Healthy Farms and Healthy Schools Grant Program (Program) administered by the Department of Agriculture (Department). The agreement period is July 1, 2007--June 30, 2008. The application period is August 27, 2007--October 5, 2007. The statement of policy describing the program is available at www.agriculture.state.pa.us.

       In summary, the program provides matching funds to educational institutions located in this Commonwealth that have a kindergarten program, whether they be public, private or charter schools. The purpose of the Program is to educate kindergarten students and their families about the importance of choosing healthy, locally produced foods while increasing awareness of Pennsylvania agriculture. The application, work plan and budget should reflect a project completion date of June 30, 2008.

       Applications for the Program will be accepted by the Department beginning the date of publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin and will continue through Friday, October 5, 2007. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. in the Bureau of Market Development on the closing date.
