Lower Mahoning Creek Watershed Conservation Plan [43 Pa.B. 5473]
[Saturday, September 14, 2013]The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Department), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation has approved the Lower Mahoning Creek Watershed Conservation Plan (Plan) and is placing the Lower Mahoning Creek Watershed, all tributaries and adjacent watersheds (Hays Run Watershed, Pine Creek Watershed and an unnamed tributary located in Pine Township, Armstrong County) covered in the Plan in Armstrong, Indiana and Jefferson Counties on the Pennsylvania Rivers Conservation Registry (Registry).
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy submitted the Plan and other required information to gain Registry status.
After review of the Plan and other information, the Department has determined that the Pennsylvania Rivers Conservation Program (Program) requirements have been satisfied and places the following on the Registry:
• The watershed area of Mahoning Creek (Jefferson County) from its confluence with the Foundry Run Watershed in Porter Township, Armstrong County to its confluence with the Mahoning Creek in Wayne Township, Armstrong County to the Mahoning Creek Watersheds' confluence with the Allegheny River in Armstrong County—276 square miles.
• All tributary streams within the Lower Mahoning Watershed Area (Armstrong, Indiana and Jefferson Counties).
• The watershed area of Pine Creek (Armstrong County) from the headwaters to its confluence with the Allegheny River.
• All tributary streams within the Pine Creek Watershed Area (Armstrong County).
• The watershed of Hays Run (Armstrong County) from the headwaters to its confluence with the Allegheny River.
• An unnamed tributary from its headwaters in Valley Township, Armstrong County to its confluence with the Allegheny River in Rayburn Township in Armstrong County.
This action becomes effective September 14, 2013. Projects identified in the Plan become eligible for implementation, development or acquisition grant funding through the Program.
