    Community Conservation Partnerships Program

    [32 Pa.B. 3405]

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Department) announces an open application period beginning July 15, 2002, for funding of planning, acquisition, development and technical assistance projects for the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (Program).

In response to survey recommendations received from our grant applicants and workshop participants, the Department scheduled preapplication workshops earlier this year. To better serve their needs, the Department has increased the number of workshops from six to nine to provide a greater number of venues which will decrease the travel time required to attend the workshops. The Department has also completed the manual and placed it on the Department's website with the necessary application forms. These actions will allow prospective applicants the necessary time to work with our regional advisors to develop a complete and competitive application.

The Program will continue to combine several funding sources currently administered by the Bureau of Recreation and Conservation; these funding sources include the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund, the Environmental Stewardship and Watershed Protection Act (Growing Greener), the Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program (Federal TEA-21 moneys), Snowmobile/ATV Funds and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The grant program components funded by these sources are: Community Recreation, Land Trusts, Rails-to-Trails, Rivers Conservation, Pennsylvania Recreational Trails, Snowmobile/ATV and Land and Water Conservation. These projects have been combined into one application cycle and a single application format to streamline the process.

Information on the preapplication workshops and order form to obtain a hard copy of the manual, including application forms, have been sent to Commonwealth municipalities, municipal agencies, appropriate/authorized organizations and prequalified land trust organizations. The Grant Application Manual for fiscal year 2002-2003, as well as forms and additional information, may be obtained by contacting the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, 6th Floor, Rachel Carson State Office Building, P. O. Box 8475, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8475, (717) 783-4734, e-mail: rec&con@state.pa.us or the Department's website: www.dcnr.state.pa.us/grants. Completed grant applications should be mailed to the postal address previously noted and must be postmarked no later than October 16, 2002. Grant applications hand carried to the address noted above must be received by 5 p.m. on October 16, 2002. Applications will not be accepted via fax or e-mail.

Persons with a disability who wish to submit an application and require assistance should contact Darrel Siesholtz at the previous phone number to discuss how the Department may best accommodate their needs. Voice/TTY users call (800) 654-5984.
