  • Availability of Title V Funds through Mini-Grants to Support Presentations about Building Inclusive Communities for Individuals with Special Health Care Needs

    [32 Pa.B. 3045]

The Bureau of Family Health (Bureau) is accepting mini-grant applications related to building inclusive communities especially in primary care and child care settings. Mini-grants are designed to support a presentation, conference session, training or workshop about building inclusive communities and enhancing community resources to promote inclusion of children and adults with special health care needs into every day activities and as consumers of nonspecialized services.

The mini-grants provide funding for presentations held on or before June 30, 2003. Applicants may apply for funding to cover multiple presentations, not to exceed $3,000 per year. Eligible expenses include speaker related costs (for example, fees/honoraria, travel, lodging and subsistence) and event costs (for example, handout material development, audio-visual equipment rental, room rental). Department of Health (Department) approval requires completion of all sections of the application and will be based upon the applicant's demonstrated understanding of building inclusive communities as rated by a Department review panel.

Applications that identify consumers, families and staff of primary health and child care providers as their target audience will receive priority consideration. Other acceptable audiences are community based social service organizations/groups, educational providers or another audience not already actively working with individuals with special health care needs.

Appropriate presentation topics may include: creating accessible healthcare, play or school environments; accessing nonspecialized health, social, community or spiritual services; sensitivity training for primary health and child care workers; involvement of persons with disabilities/special health care needs in community building; housing and ADA compliance; nutritional considerations for persons with disabilities/special health care needs; self-advocacy training for persons with disabilities/special health care needs and their families or another topic which expands knowledge and awareness of the needs of persons with disabilities/special health care needs as it relates to community inclusion.
