Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Blue Shield; Filing 527-ACII-CR-10/1/2001; Access Care II Community Rated Group Rate Increase

   Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Blue Shield submitted a filing requesting the Insurance Department's (Department) approval to increase the Access Care II Community Group rates effective October 1, 2001, renewals and new business. The average rate increase will range from 19.5% to 25%, depending on the renewal date as well as the option selected with prescription drug or without prescription drug coverage. The rate increase will produce an estimated additional income of $6 million and will impact 7,500 contracts. Also, filing requests approval of restructuring tiered rates to match with the Pennsylvania Blue Shield Medical/Surgical product line.

   Copies of the filing are available for public inspection during normal working hours, by appointment, at the Department's Harrisburg regional office.

   Interested parties are invited to submit written comments, suggestions or objections to Bharat Patel, Actuary, Bureau of Accident and Health Insurance, Insurance Department, 1311 Strawberry Square, Harrisburg, PA 17120, within 30 days after publication of this notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
