570/272 Area Code Overlay Implementation and Customer Education [43 Pa.B. 1679]
[Saturday, March 23, 2013]As directed by Commission Order at Doc. No. P-2009-2117193, all incumbent and competitive local exchange carriers were to have the 272 overlay network preparations completed by March 1, 2011. It was also ordered that implementation and customer education would not begin prior to 6 months from exhaust of the 570 area code.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has been informed by the North American Numbering Administrator that the 570 area code has reached the 6-month from exhaust threshold. Therefore, carriers should now implement the 272 area code overlay for the 570 area code and begin customer education and permissive dialing.
