[Saturday, February 19, 2011]The Department of Health (Department) has announced three public meetings to receive comments and suggestions about the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).
According to Acting State WIC Director Shirley H. Sword, the meetings will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
Pittsburgh, PA—Tuesday, April 19, 2011, Allegheny County Health Department, Investment Building, 6th Floor, 239 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
Philadelphia, PA—Tuesday, May 3, 2011, NORTH, Inc., 642 North Broad Street, Suite 101, Philadelphia, PA 19130
Camp Hill, PA—Wednesday, May 18, 2011, Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania, Inc., 3461 Market Street, Camp Hill, PA 17011
The Department invites the general public to provide comments on all aspects of the WIC Program's operations. The purpose of the WIC Program is to provide nutrition education and supplemental foods to eligible persons with an emphasis on reaching and enrolling women in the early months of pregnancy, migrants and homeless individuals. Call (800) WIC-WINS for eligibility criteria for participation. Persons wishing to provide comments at the public meetings are requested to preregister with the Pennsylvania WIC Program Office by calling Bonnie Mellott, WIC Education/Outreach Coordinator at (717) 783-1289. Those unable to attend are encouraged to submit comments to the Department of Health, Division of Women, Infants and Children (WIC), 2150 Herr Street, 1st Floor, Suite B, Harrisburg, PA 17103-1625. Written comments will be accepted until May 31, 2011.
Written comments and those presented at the meetings will be used in developing the State Plan of Program Operation and Administration for the WIC Program for the 2012 Federal Fiscal Year, which runs October 1, 2011, to September 30, 2012. Shirley H. Sword said additional information about the meetings or the State Plan may be obtained by calling the State Office at (717) 783-1289.
