1966 Public hearing on declining resident population at Hamburg Center

  • Public Hearing on Declining Resident Population at Hamburg Center

    [29 Pa.B. 5958]

The Department of Public Welfare (Department) will hold a public hearing on the declining resident population at Hamburg Center, Berks County. The hearing will be held on Thursday, December 2, 1999, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Reading Area Community College.

The Department, under authority of the act of April 28, 1999 (P. L. 24) is required to hold a public hearing on any State mental health or mental retardation facility within 30 days of a closure announcement or following a downsizing of 20% or more.

The decrease in patient population at Hamburg Center is a result of numerous factors, primarily successful community placement of individuals with mental retardation into small homes, which provide alternatives to State center treatments and living arrangement.

Individuals or organizations wishing to testify should contact Tom Harfman, Regional Director at (570) 963-4391 by November 23, 1999. Persons requiring special accommodations are asked to inform the Department at the time of scheduling.
