    Drug, Device and Cosmetic Board Meeting

       A meeting of the Department of Health's Drug, Device and Cosmetic Board (Board) has been scheduled for Thursday, December 9, 1999. The Board meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 132 Kline Plaza, Suite A, Harrisburg, PA. The purpose of the meeting is for the Board to review a petition presented by Roxane Laboratories, Inc. requesting that the substance synthetic dronabinal (Marinol ®; (-) - delta 9 - trans) - Tetrahydrocannabinol be rescheduled as a Schedule III controlled substance under the Controlled Substance Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act and regulations. A Schedule III controlled substance is a substance with a potential for abuse less than the substances listed in Schedule I and II with well documented and currently accepted medical use in the United States and abuse may lead to moderate or low physical dependence or high psychological dependence.
