    Right-to-Know Law and Sunshine Law Annual Training

     The Office of Open Records (OOR) will conduct its annual training on the Right-to-Know Law (RTKL) (65 P. S. §§ 67.101—67.3104) and 65 Pa.C.S. §§ 701—716 (relating to Sunshine Act) on October 23, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the auditorium of The State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North Street, Harrisburg, PA 17120.

     Representatives from the OOR will discuss OOR appeal procedures and time frames in the RTKL. The discussion will focus on various exemptions to the presumption that governmental records are public and what to expect during the appeal process before the OOR. The interplay between the Sunshine Act and RTKL will also be discussed. An overview of recent Commonwealth and Supreme Court rulings, current trends and OOR decisions impacting the RTKL and access to government records will be provided. Finally, ample opportunity will be provided for attendees to direct questions to a panel of experts regarding the RTKL.

     The training is free and open to everyone, including citizens, public officials, agency open records officer, attorneys and members of the media. The program is pending approval for 1.5 CLE hours. Registration by October 18, 2013, is recommended as seating is limited.
