9 Referendum on continuation of the Pennsylvania Wine Marketing and Research Program

  • Referendum on Continuation of the Pennsylvania Wine Marketing and Research Program

    [42 Pa.B. 33]
    [Saturday, January 7, 2012]

Under the applicable provisions of 3 Pa.C.S. Chapter 45 (relating to Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act), a review referendum was held from November 14 to November 30, 2011, to determine if the producers affected by the Pennsylvania Wine Marketing and Research Program (program) wanted to continue the program for an additional 5 years. To pass, a majority of eligible producers voting had to vote in favor of the program's continuation. An impartial Teller Committee met on December 9, 2011, to count the ballots. The following results were submitted by the Teller Committee: a total of 75 eligible votes were cast with 53 producers voting in favor of and 22 voting against the continuation of the program. An additional one ballot was invalid because it was postmarked and received after the deadline. Votes favoring continuation of the program by number of producers represented 71% of eligible votes and votes against continuation of the program represented 29% of eligible votes. Because a majority of the votes were cast in favor of the program, the program shall continue for 5 years, effective immediately.
