Request for Bids [31 Pa.B. 489] The Department of Transportation's, Bureau of Rail Freight, Ports and Waterways, is seeking bidders that are interested in purchasing a rail line located in Berks and Montgomery Counties. The rail line is owned by the Department and is known as USRA Line No. 909, the Colebrookdale Branch. It extends between milepost 0.00 at Colebrookdale Junction and milepost 8.60 at Boyertown for approximately 8.60 miles. The line was upgraded in 1990, through a capital project, to Federal Railroad Administration II operating requirements. The total cost of this rehabilitation project was approximately $906,000. Since 1982, the Department has invested a total of $1.3 million into the line. The line was appraised in December of 1998 with the fair market value determined to be $416,000. The width of the right-of-way ranges from 30 feet to 178 feet with the average width being about 60 feet. The line is currently being operated by Penn Eastern Rail Lines, Inc.
The successful bidder will be the bidder with the highest bid with final approval given by the Federal Railroad Administration.
